Regulatory Actions against AAEM Members

Stephen Barrett, M.D.

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), which was founded by Theron Randolph in 1965 as the Society for Clinical Ecology, is composed mainly of medical and osteopathic physicians. Most AAEM members espouse dubious concepts of multiple chemical sensitivity, toxic mold, and yeast overgrowth. The 1996-1997 AAEM membershop directory listed 429 individuals, about 75% of whom were physicians practicing within the the United States. In November 2016, AAEM's online directory listed 244 practitioners worldwide, 150 of whom were medical or osteopathic physicians. Of these, at least 28 (listed below) have been subjected to licensing board actions. An asterisk indicates that the doctor is a former AAEM president. Click the links to access details of each case.
